‘Extra’ is a term used to describe something additional, supplementary, or “something more”. This ‘extra’ can be perceived by both the conscious or subconscious mind, derived from an accumulation of information absorbed in our daily encounters. The work in this exhibition appeals to those contemplative moments in which we identify this surplus, but injected with mystery and sublimation.
Through their work, this group of artists explores the idea of extra-ness by taking up notions of dreams, the unconscious, recurring or additive experiences. They employ various media in order to investigate the ‘extra’, often by taking ordinary objects and making them spectacular by virtue of repetition or accumulation.
