The veil, as a cultural object, functions to partially mask, disguise or obscure something else. Landing on the Veil is an attempt to excavate the terrain of that which is concealed. Wrestling with concerns regarding memory, ritual, simulation, translation, transition and dislocation, this exhibition takes up the ways in which spatial and temporal formations of these concepts constitute identity. Articulated through photography, painting, printmaking and sculpture, processes of reclamation and the intersection of public and private space are integral to the colliding methodologies that inform the works featured in this show. Landing on the Veil endeavors to peel back facades, to retell counterfeit memories, to collapse space and unearth the residues of subject hood.
