BFA Exhibition: Portrayal(l)
Monday, Dec 5, 2016 - Saturday, Dec 10, 2016
Chestnut Street Campus

A depiction/representation/characterization/impression/rendering of someone or something, or a performance of someone or something, the phrase portrayal is deeply embedded in the worlds of visual art, literature, theater, cinema, and media, both as methodology and artifact. In reviewing San Francisco Art Institute’s Fall 2016 BFA students’ work for this exhibition, I came across depictions of nature, traditional photographic portraits, representations of both interior architectural worlds and emotional domains, portraits of life through accumulated objects, gestural allusions to familial ties, projects that mine pooled input to create portraits of landscape and commerce, renderings of the human form. Ranging in media and in conceptual and thematic content, the work in this exhibition not only provides a number of lenses in which to observe and contemplate our world, but also forms a collective portrait of this semester’s graduating BFA students.
