Peggy Phelan, along with her co-curator, Professor Richard Meyer, has spent the last three years examining the previously unseen archive of Warhol contact sheets acquired by Stanford in 2014. The talk highlights some of the most salient and profound implications of this research for Warhol studies, and for photography, archives, and art history generally.
Peggy Phelan is The Denning Family Chair and Director of the Stanford Arts Institute. She also holds the Ann O'Day Maples Professorship in the Arts and faculty appointments in the departments of English and Theatre and Performance Studies at Stanford. She writes frequently about performance theory and contemporary art.
