Winifred Johnson Clive Foundation Distinguished Painting Fellow
Paul Renner is a singularly bold artist whose activities span painting, performance art, jubilant social theater, and hyperadventurous cuisine. He creates ecstatic feasts that present food as sculpture and paintings as mythic backdrops, set within environments that transform the experience of his guest-eaters into art. His actions are anarchic, subversive, and experimental, and his exhibitions upend notions of luxury and thrift through sloppy/succulent ingredient pairings, unfussy presentation, and his own presence—that of a hyper-sane artist acting the role of unhinged chef. Renner lives in Bregenzerwald, Austria, and Capri, Italy.
About the Winifred Johnson Clive Foundation Distinguished Painting Fellowship
The Winifred Johnson Clive Foundation Distinguished Painting Fellowship offers students an unmatched level of engagement with internationally recognized painters. Each semester, artists are invited to SFAI for a short-term residency during which they present public lectures and meet with SFAI students in colloquia, critiques, and workshops.
