2235 is the year the World Economic Forum estimates the global gender pay gap will end. Statistical figures show that for the past eight years the pay gap has been steadily increasing. The UK, Australia, Japan, Germany and Sweden have taken measures to mandate employers to release annual gender pay gap data. Early this year, the UK has enacted a law mandating equal pay for women and men. There are a number of factors besides unequal pay for the same job, such as women taking lower paying jobs, part-time jobs or receiving a lower salary due to child-rearing. Currently, only 22% of individuals holding a senior managerial position are women. Many of us are complicit in accepting this reality…for ourselves, our sisters, mothers, family members, friends and colleagues. I invite you to participate in writing on the proverbial chalkboard.
