Opening Reception: Friday, November 1 | 4:30pm
Join us for the opening reception of residue / cocoon in the Schafer Gallery—featuring works by Shara Mays, Evan Pettiglio, Flora Wilds. This exhibition is on view November 1–13 at our Fort Mason Campus.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Textiles consume our lives. They are the most intimate connection humans have with inanimate objects. They sit directly on our skin, warm us, protect us, help us fall asleep at night. Textile continuously suggests a body. We connect profoundly to their tactile nature, we are both empowered and tethered by textiles. In an examination of the power imbued in this medium these three artists explore varying avenues of introspection through textile. This exhibition reveals the conflict of grappling with the density of personhood; calling upon textiles to reveal simultaneous experiences of being bound and knotted to that personhood while concurrently seeking solace in the cocoon of that same identity.
