Mike Osterhout graduated from SFAI with an MFA in 1979, and went on to study theology at Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, California. Osterhout first opened his “gallery as sculpture,” MO David, in San Francisco in 1982, which later moved to New York City’s East Village in 1984. While in New York, he formed the rock band Purple Geezus, The Church of the Little Green Man, and The Old School for Social Sculpture. He has branded a cow and pulled prints from its nose; tattooed multiple individuals in order to obtain “bloodprints”; and currently uses hunting, small real estate acquisitions, and the ongoing performance via the collective/support group The Church of the Little Green Man to frame his art. Osterhout currently lives in the Catskill Mountains in New York.
