In what ways do contemporary artists portray the environmental devastation and ongoing climate losses taking place in the polar regions? Drawing on aspects of environmentalism and feminism as well as visual culture, Lisa E. Bloom shares her research on artists who in new and imaginative ways give voice and form to representing the unfolding climatic issues about the precarious world that we inhabit.
Lisa E. Bloom,Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley, is the author of many books and articles in visual culture, cultural studies, and feminist art history including her first book Gender on Ice: American Ideologies of Polar Expeditions (University of Minnesota Press, 1993), the first critical feminist and postcolonial studies book on the polar regions. She is currently in residence at the Beatrice Bain Center at UC Berkeley completing her latest book on Polar Aesthetics for Duke University Press.
