The Landscape and Things in the Way

John Divola is a conceptual artist whose works have spanned multiple forms of photography. In his renowned series, As Far As I Could Get, Divola runs from the camera, which captures a self-timed image of the artist in landscapes throughout the world. His movement through the landscape is an effort to locate an “oscillating edge between the abstract and the specific.” This work is the subject of a monograph by Prestel Publishing (2013), and the focus of co-presented exhibitions at Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Pomona College Museum of Art. A Los Angeles native, Divola is a Professor of Art at the University of California, Riverside.
