Going Digital: An Online Course for Residency Applicants

Christopher Squier
6 Sessions » Mondays, June 8-July 27

Online | Online | $295

This course provides the fundamentals of building a professional artist, writer, or performer’s application with the primary aim of applying to residencies. The course begins with an overview of the various artist and writer residencies which are currently available to unsolicited applications, the strengths and weaknesses of artist residency directories, and moves to the basics of jurying and adjudicating applicants from the perspective of the residency.

Throughout six sessions, we will work together to craft your polished application, in classes focused on capturing images of your work through digital photography, editing for visually-captivating and conceptually-potent imagery, developing a succinct and cogent artist statement, developing residency proposals without straying from the core of your practice, attending to each application’s unique format requirements (for example, word count, image format, or blind application requests), and building familiarity with the Slideroom and Call for Entry application portals.

Overall, the course aims to provide a toolkit for emerging or established artists who are preparing to submit residency applications in the near future, although anyone curious about the process is welcome to participate.
