This 3 day workshop will explore natural materials and its use in contemporary art, focusing on land art and earth art movements as inspiration. Students in the course will be encouraged to incorporate natural material such as branches, leaves, stone, water and earth. The course will focus more on four natural elements and its connection to spirituality and the challenges the materials face in contemporary art. The course will also focus on how to document the process of an ephemeral work through video and photography. Artists including Robert Smitson, Ana Mendieta and many more will be discussed.
Minoosh Zomorodinia is an Iranian-born interdisciplinary artist who makes visible her emotional and psychological reflections as seen in her mind's eye inspired by nature. She earned her MFA in New Genres from San Francisco Art Institute, and holds a Masters degree in Graphic Design and BA in Photography from Azad University in Tehran. She has received several awards and residences such as MFA Fellowship from San Francisco Art Institute, Djerassi Resident Artists. She has exhibited at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Root Division, SOMArts, Pori Art Museum, WORKS San Jose. Her work is permanent collection of Nevada Museum of Art. She is currently Affiliate Artist at Headlands Center for the Arts.
