Materials List

Create sculptures and make arrangements to explore objects’ interrelationships. Discussion will emphasize inherent social being, object-hood, signs and signifiers, and other closely related topics to deepen our understanding of the subject. We will also explore the structure/container that the arrangements are placed within, and be introduced to artists that work in this way – utilizing cabinets, boxes, and tableaux vivants, or possibly larger spaces. Some artists we will talk about include David Ireland, Dahn Vo, Pierre Huyghe, Alicja Kwade, Katarina Fritsch, Jimmie Durham, Joseph Beuys, Joseph Cornell, Stephanie Syjuco, and Lindsey White. Class time will be dedicated to grow our own sculpture practice and complete assignments.
