This course is for first-time students interested in painting. This course aims to open up, ‘play,’ and experiment with painting, working with mediums like watercolor, acrylics, and oil. Why the emphasis on ‘play’? Play is a positive activity and builds confidence. This is particularly helpful to students that have never painted before or have often voiced,’ I am not good at painting’ but want to try. By the end of the course, students will be more self-assured in their approach to painting and have a better understanding of the mediums and how to use them.
Also, during the course, we will look at and study painters of the past such as Leonard Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gough, and Henri Matisse and more contemporary artists of today such as Jenny Savile, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Kehinde Wiley, to name a few. Faculty from the SFAI painting department will also be included in the study.
