Lauren Hartman

Lauren is an artist, educator, and community organizer living and working in Oakland, California. She received an MFA in Painting from San Francisco Art Institute in 2010 and a BFA in Printmaking from Columbus College of Art and Design. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally. Selected exhibition locations include; The Darwin Museum in Moscow Russia, yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco California, Arctic and Antarctic Museum St. Petersburg Russia, and SACI in Firenze Italy. She has hosted numerous international workshops in conjunction with her museum exhibitions. Hartman’s project the Society of Submerged Culture, is an ongoing investigation into the many facets of submerged culture and forgotten layers of histories and folklore. She seeks to create an open dialogue about cultural issues and current events through her work. Harman is driven by human’s relationship to natural forces, and explores the outcomes of these relationships through her craft.
