Skins and Selves: Looking Deeper
July 2–July 8, 2017
Closing Reception: Friday, July 7 | 8pm

Flags, paint, history, patterns, bodies, posters, poetry—all manifest held beliefs and systems of conscious creation or otherwise. Consider a flag as the skin of a nation—an unflappable patch of patriotism or a sling of outrageous fortune in the face of a diverse and divided state? Similarly, paint itself may represent or event stand skin-like in a body of work, pooling and peeling, pulling up self-reflexively, or looking back to reveal shades of inner depth. Lines, light, and words well up; strands, scenes, and stanzas spill, gathering meaning. But only for a moment.

Participating Artists
Samuel De Lemos, Sera Mac, Ashley Rowland, Suzanne Russell, and Kate Smith.

Suzanne Russell, DISSENT IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF PATRIOTISM, 2017; American flag and paint, 6 x 10 feet.
