Emily Shallman joined the Exhibitions and Public Programs department in 2013 and became Director of Public Education in November 2016. She oversees the Public Education, PreCollege, and Young Artist Programs. During Emily’s tenure in Public Education, the programs have experienced significant growth and now serve 600 students annually, from ages 13 and up. She is an alumna of SFAI’s Urban Studies program (MA 2012) and received her BA in Elementary Art Education with a Washington State Teaching Certificate and Reading Endorsement from Western Washington University. Emily has experience as an elementary school art teacher, has served as a board fellow for the California Alliance for Arts Education, and has volunteered for Bay Area youth education programs. She is committed to providing high quality arts education to youth and adults.
