Crystal Liu's photography and paintings on paper can be described as being psychological and emotional landscapes. Using flora, fauna, geological phenomena and meteorological events as metaphors for emotional states and personal relationships, she depicts interstitial moments of hope, longing, loss and love. Her open-ended narratives are inspired by art history, literature, film, conversations overheard at bus stops, and her personal experience. Her work has been exhibited in Asia, Canada, San Francisco and New York. Her photographs have been purchased by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She is represented by Hosfelt Gallery.
