Tom Curtis BFA 1979 / MFA 1981

Tom Curtis was born in western Oklahoma in 1953. He came to the San Francisco Art Institute in 1977 at the height of the punk rock and new wave movements. This was an exciting time in Bay Area art history because artists were not afraid to attempt extreme non traditional forms of art. He found expression not only in painting but performance art, video, film and experimental music with the underground theater group “Sonezone”. He later worked in digital graphics as an extension of explorations in physical media. In 1991 he created a set design company to expand his productivity. He is currently living in San Francisco and works in his studio in Oakland California.
